SAFETY

At Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC), your safety is our top priority. We know that studying in another country can bring unique challenges, especially when adjusting to new systems and rules. That’s why we work closely with District Police, Facilities Operations, and Student Services to keep our campuses safe, welcoming, and supportive for everyone.

Emergency Preparedness

In the United States, schools regularly practice safety drills so students know exactly what to do in an emergency. These are not cause for alarm—they are designed to prepare you.

  • Earthquake & Fire Drills: Each semester, SRJC holds evacuation drills, including the statewide Great ShakeOut earthquake drill in October. Staff will guide you if you’re unsure what to do.
  • Safety Systems: Fire alarms and campus alert systems are tested regularly—don’t be surprised if you hear alarms during the semester.

Campus Security

Campus safety in the U.S. is often supported by a campus police department. At SRJC, the District Police are friendly officers who patrol the campus, assist students, and respond to emergencies.

  • Regular safety patrols are conducted on all campuses
  • Improved lighting and security cameras are in place in busy areas
  • Police officers can be approached for help at any time

Support Services

Living in a new country can sometimes feel overwhelming. SRJC has support to keep you safe both physically and emotionally:

  • Counseling Services for mental health and personal support
  • Student Health Services for medical care
  • Crisis intervention if you experience an emergency or trauma

Reporting Concerns

In the U.S., students are encouraged to report unsafe situations—it’s normal and expected.

  • Emergencies or suspicious activity: Call District Police at (707) 527-1000
  • Campus hazards (e.g., broken lights, spills): Submit a ticket to Facilities Operations or use the SRJC Safety Reporting form to report anonymously.
  • Graffiti or hate speech: Report immediately to District Police for removal and investigation. Remember: SRJC condemns all forms of hate speech and intimidation. These acts have no place in our community and will be taken seriously.

SRJC Alert System

The SRJC Alert System is how the college communicates quickly in an emergency. Alerts may include text messages, phone calls, or emails.

  • Students: You are automatically registered with your SRJC email and the phone number you provided. If you are not receiving alerts, confirm your contact information with Admissions & Records.
  • Employees: Work emails are included; opt in for texts or personal email via the SRJC Escape Employee Portal.
  • Parents & Community: Register via the District Police website.

You may also review our Emergency Messaging Protocols to understand how and when alerts are sent.
