DEPARTURE CHECKLIST
Leaving Santa Rosa Junior College is an exciting milestone. Whether you are graduating, transferring, or returning home, there are a few important steps to complete before you go.
This checklist will help you prepare for your transition and avoid common issues with your student account, records, and immigration status. Some items may not apply to every student. If you are unsure about your next steps, please contact ISP or schedule an appointment for guidance.
Immigration & ISP
Before you leave SRJC, make sure you know what comes next.
You may be:
- graduating and returning home
- graduating and transferring to another U.S. school
- transferring before completing your program at SRJC
- ending your studies and leaving the United States
- applying for Optional Practical Training (OPT)
If you are not sure which option applies to you, you can schedule an appointment with ISP.
Make sure your immigration record is handled correctly before you leave.
- Contact ISP if you are graduating, transferring, withdrawing, taking a break, applying for OPT, or leaving the U.S.
- Submit a Transfer-Out Request if you plan to transfer schools.
- Review OPT information early if you plan to apply.
- Follow all instructions from ISP about your SEVIS record and Form I-20.
- Make sure you understand your grace period and required departure timeline.
Important: Your SEVIS record is not automatically updated when you graduate, drop classes, or leave the U.S. Failure to follow proper procedures may impact your immigration status.

- Confirm your last day of authorized employment.
- Update your mailing address with your employer for tax forms.
- Keep copies of pay stubs and tax documents.

Please contact ISP before you leave SRJC if your plans include graduation, transfer, withdrawal, OPT, or departure from the United States.

Schedule an Appointment

Academic & SRJC Accounts
- Apply for graduation if needed: Graduation Application
- Order official transcripts if needed for transfer or employment.
- Confirm your diploma mailing address when applying for graduation.
- Save copies of important academic documents for your records.
- Make sure your personal email address is updated in Bear Cub Hub.
- Check your account regularly for holds, messages, or balance information.
- Save important documents and emails before access ends.
- Pay any remaining balances: Student Accounts
- Check for library fines or other holds.
- Submit a Petition for Refund if applicable.
- Keep records of all payments.
Personal Preparation
- End your lease or housing agreement.
- Cancel utilities, phone, and internet.
- Sell, store, donate, or ship belongings.
- Arrange transportation for departure.

- Refill prescriptions if needed.
- Request copies of medical or vaccination records.
- Confirm when your health insurance ends.
- Stay in contact with classmates, professors, and mentors.
- Save important contact information before leaving.
Leaving school and returning home, transferring, or starting a new chapter can bring a mix of emotions.
You may feel excited, nervous, relieved, or sad. All of that is normal.
