If you took ESL 10 between Fall 2019 and Spring 2021 and plan to apply to the University of California now or in the future, please read this message carefully and keep it for future reference.

It has just come to our attention that when ESL 10 was reviewed by the UC it was not marked in their system as a class that meets the English requirement for the UC, even though it was approved for the IGETC. In the Transfer Admission Guarantee application, as well as the general UC application, you will receive a message that you have not completed the English requirement for admissions, however, this is a mistake and ESL 10 does meet one of the two UC-English requirements.

To solve this issue, please email me at amerkel@santarosa.edu with the following information and I will pass it along to the UC Office of the President:

  • Name
  • SRJC Student ID
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • UC campus(es) you are applying to for a TAG and/or general admissions

In the Additional Comments section of the TAG and/or general application you should include the following statement:

Although my application is indicating I have not completed two UC-English courses I have been informed by the Transfer Center Director at Santa Rosa Junior College that ESL 10 was mistakenly not classified as a UC-E course. I completed ESL 10 in _____________ (include semester and year) with a grade of ______ (include your grade). The SRJC Transfer Center Director has sent my information to the UC Office of the President who is aware of the mistake.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or your counselor if you have questions about this matter. We apologize for the oversight and know this is very stressful, however, UC is working with us to ensure it does not have a negative impact on your application.

Thank you,

Amy Merkel
